TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATIONS

The Mountaineer Racing Formula SAE program is supported largely through financial and in kind donations from alumni, private individuals and corporate sponsors. Donations are made through the WVU Foundation, the non-profit corporation that generates, receives and administers private gifts for the benefit of WVU. All donations are tax deductible.

By sponsoring Mountaineer Racing, you will help provide students the opportunity to develop and demonstrate the technical knowledge, communication, teamwork and project management skills that will launch them into challenging and innovative careers in the automotive industry and related fields.

Funding Campaigns

  • Students fabricate suspension components using a vertical mill
    2023 Race Car Fabrication

The Mountaineer Racing team is currently fabricating the 2023 JAC 7 race car that will compete in the Formula SAE® Michigan Competition at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI in May 2023. The cost of building a new FSAE race car and competing in one FSAE competition is approximately $60,000.  The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department provides a portion of the needed funding, but the team will need additional funding to supplement.

    GOAL: $25,000

  • Dyno-mite engine dynamometer
Improvements to Engine Dynamometer Testing Facility

A robust, well-tuned powertrain is essential to any successful racing venture. The Mountaineer racing team is looking to purchase an additional engine dedicated just for tuning, testing, and calibration. In addition to the upfront cost of the engine, the team will need additional electrical components and improved hardware to assist in the process.

    GOAL: $10,000

  • Vehicle Dynamics Testing
    Vehicle Dynamics Testing

In order to stay competitive each year, the Mountaineer Racing team hopes to travel to North Carolina during the spring to a performance testing facility. Since the design process each year is iterative, the team hopes to obtain data on the car's performance to stay competitive with other teams. The team will require upfront and travel costs to attend this event.

    GOAL: $8,000

  • Tools and Equipment
    Workspace Modernization

This year, the team was given the opportunity to relocate to a larger workspace. While some equipment will move with them, the team will be required to populate the new work area with a variety of tools and equipment. Additionally, some of the tools and equipment is in need of repair due to normal wear. The team could also benefit from new computers as there is not always enough for students when working in the shop.

    GOAL: $20,000
